Root canal treatment involves the removal of diseased or damaged dental pulp from within the root canal. It also includes cleaning and disinfecting the root canal system, and sealing it to protect it from further infection. This procedure preserves not only the tooth itself, but also the surrounding tissue, which could be at risk if left untreated.
A root canal is a procedure that is necessary when the nerve chamber of a tooth is accessed by a large cavity or when the tooth has broken. In such cases, regular fillings are unable to resolve the issue and can lead to significant pain as bacteria enters the nerve or an abscess form beneath the roots in the jawbone.

Root canal procedures are typically conducted by an experienced endodontist or general dentist and usually take one or two visits. However, complex treatments may require extra appointments to ensure a successful outcome.

Following this, our professionals will go on to take away any decay and may even need to create an opening in order to access the deteriorating pulp chamber. With great care and using specialised dental tools, the infected or damaged pulp is then extracted.
After the diseased pulp has been taken out, the pulp chamber and root canals are detoxified and refurbished. To optimize the filling process, they may also need to be altered and widened.
If the root canal requires multiple visits, a temporary filling is placed in the crown to protect the tooth and keep out debris and saliva.
