Braces Northern Ireland is not usually something most adults go for when it comes to orthodontic care, and while some may be able to get away with a set of clear aligners, there are those in need of more serious orthodontics but who may be afraid to turn to traditional braces because frankly, they look terrible. But what then can you be expected to do about your crooked teeth? At Harbour Dental we have a more advanced solution for you in the form of invisible braces.
What are invisible braces?
As the name suggests, invisible braces are unlike their metal counterparts because they are far less noticeable when worn due to the use of clear brackets and tooth-coloured wires, this is the main draw for most patients as keeping their orthodontic care as discreet as possible is the goal. Thanks to this highly advanced treatment, patients are feeling more confident about getting braces as adults knowing that they won’t have to deal with the fall out of looking like a tween for two years or more, even teens prefer the use of this treatment over metal braces because it’s much faster than the traditional ones.
How do they work?
By fixing a clear bracket to each of your teeth, we are able to feed a tooth coloured wire through them, this wire can then be placed under different tensions in order to pull the teeth into position, what tension is applied to which teeth and when is handled by all our dentists who are highly trained in orthodontic care for Braces Northern Ireland.
How long can I expect treatment time to be?
The system we use is called Six Month Smiles, and you really can expect treatment to be complete within 6 months, but each patient is different so each length of treatment time may likewise differ, for those with mild cases of misalignment treatment could be complete within less time which is incredibly convenient and those with severe cases of malocclusions and crooked or skewed teeth, treatment time may be a little longer but thanks to their invisible nature this usually isn’t a problem because the results are so worth it.
What comes after?
What many people don’t know is that once orthodontic treatment is over, it is not all said and done, your teeth are going to want to shift back into their natural positions which is why we offer fixed or removable retainers which need to be worn in order to maintain the new shape of your smile.
Fixed retainer – this is a small wire that is fitted onto the back of the teeth and is never noticeable, it keeps the teeth in place and you never have to think about it again.
Removable retainer – these can be taken out at will and are commonly worn at night in order to keep the teeth in their new position.
